By invitation only

A small room for people who know each other

Chat is a small space inside txtnode. It is text and emoji, and only people the founder knows can be in it.

Open chat

Sign-in is with Google. Without an invite you can still ask for one there.

Known both ways

You need to know the founder, and he needs to know you back, for at least three months.

Approved by hand

Every member is approved personally. Nobody gets in from a link or a waitlist.

Your own password link

Set a password and open your chats from a link without signing in with Google.

What you get

Everything a conversation needs, and nothing else

Text and emoji

Plain messages and a built-in emoji picker. No images, files or link previews to wade through.

Find people by username

Type someone's full username to start a chat, the way you add a contact. There is no directory to browse.

Live on every device

Messages arrive the moment they are sent, on every tab and device where you are signed in.

Block anyone

Block a person and they can no longer message you. To write to someone you blocked, unblock them first.

Alerts you control

Turn sound and notifications on or off, send yourself a test, and get a single summary instead of a buzz per message.

Previews on your terms

Choose whether notifications and the chat list show the message text or just say there is something new.

How to get in

Four steps, one of them is a conversation

  1. 01

Sign in to txtnode with Google and open Chat. You do not need an invite to get this far.

  2. 02

    Pick a username

Choose a name of 3 to 20 letters, numbers, hyphens or underscores. It locks the moment you are approved, so pick one you like.

  3. 03

    Ask the founder

Message him on the channel where you already reach him, then request access from the Chat page so he knows to look.

  4. 04

    Start talking

Once he approves you, find people by their full username and start a conversation. You get an email either way.

The password link

Your chats, without a Google sign-in

Each member can set a password and a four character code. Together with your username they make an address only you know, and the password opens the same conversations behind it.

txtnode.com/chat/yourname-aB3x

It only works while a password is set, signs out on its own after a few hours, and stops working the moment you change the password or switch it off. Changing settings always needs your Google account.

Questions

Before you ask

Who can get an invite?

People the founder knows personally, who know him back, and have for at least three months. It is a small room on purpose, so there is no waitlist and no way to buy in.

What happens if my request is not approved?

You will see a short message, and by email, sometimes with a note from the founder. You can change your username and ask again later.

Can I change my username?

Until you are approved, yes. After that it is locked, so other members always find you under the same name.

What is the password link for?

It opens your chats from an address like txtnode.com/chat/yourname-aB3x with just a password, so you can read and reply from a device where you would rather not sign in with Google. You set it up and switch it off from your chat settings.

Can I delete messages, or send photos and files?

Not yet. For now chat is text and emoji only, and messages stay in the conversation.

Are there group chats?

Not yet. Today every conversation is between two people.

Know the founder? Come in.

Pick a username, send your request, and say hello on the channel where you already reach him.
